Project: Weekendschool
Organisation: Stichting IMC Weekendschool
Mission
Since 1998, IMC Weekendschool has been providing supplementary education for Dutch youth in the places where it is needed most. The program prepares young people for their lives after school, helping them make informed, motivated choices for their future. IMC Weekendschool is committed to ensuring that young people from all educational levels and social backgrounds can find their place in society – one that aligns with their interests and talents.
Program
At IMC Weekendschool, students aged ten and older attend weekly classes for three years. Enthusiastic professionals introduce them to various professional fields, offering hands-on experiences and real-world insights. This unique educational approach has proven to have long-term positive effects on students’ lives, enhancing their future perspectives, self-confidence, social cohesion, and motivation.
The program serves as a valuable supplement to regular education. It is offered as a three-year Sunday curriculum in dedicated schools or as a two-year program integrated into primary school hours. Students step into the roles of journalists, philosophers, surgeons, and more – engaging in practical, real-life experiences. They develop essential skills such as interviewing, critical thinking, presenting, and teamwork. Most importantly, they begin to believe in themselves and dare to dream about their future.
Impact
IMC Weekendschool operates ten weekend schools across seven major cities and partners with 30+ primary schools. Additionally, the program has built a thriving alumni network of 4,000 former students, fostering lifelong connections and continued personal growth.
